The Tower of London Walk

The St Paul’s Cathedral Walk

The Westminster Abbey Walk

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Tower of London was originally built by King William I (the ‘Conqueror’) in 1078. Much expanded since, many of the more unsavoury events in English history took place within its walls. Two wives of King Henry VIII, his Lord Chancellor, Sir Thomas More, and the Earl of Essex were just some of the famous people executed here; and Princess Elizabeth (before she became Queen Elizabeth I) and Sir Walter Raleigh were amongst others who were imprisoned. You can see the splendidly attired Beefeaters, the jolly custodians who are only too happy to be photographed with visitors; the ravens which, if they ever left the Tower, would herald the end of the monarchy; and King Henry VIII's personal suits of armour. But the most popular sight, which no-one will want to miss, are the sparkling Crown Jewels.

See where London was founded by the Romans nearly 2,000 years ago, and stand amazed at the City's subsequent transformation into one of the world's top financial centres, with its gleaming 21st century buildings cheek by jowl with immaculately preserved ancient buildings. See Tower Bridge, the Guildhall, the Bank of England, the Royal Exchange, Leadenhall Market, and Lloyd's of London. Hear about the settlement of North America, the Great Fire of London and the Blitz. Learn about Sir Thomas More, William Shakespeare, Samuel Pepys, Robert Hooke, Sir Isaac Newton, Edmond Halley, and the Duke of Wellington. Finish with a guided tour of the Tower of London.
