Other Useful Websites

The following websites contain further information about interesting places to visit in England:

English Heritage

English Heritage looks after and maintains hundreds of buildings that over the centuries have passed into the hands of the state.

The Historic Houses Association

The Historic Houses Association is the club to which many private owners of historic stately homes and manor houses belong; the website has a list of all of them and says which ones are open to the public, and when.

The National Trust

The National Trust is one of the principal conservation bodies in England, looking after hundreds of historic houses which are no longer in private hands. It also owns and maintains several ornamental gardens, and as the owner of beautiful countryside and coastlines, it prevents over-commercialisation, saving them for future generations to enjoy as we do.
